Above : Late 1960s - and two turbine steamers remain on duty providing cruises on the Clyde. Queen Mary (in foreground) was one year younger than Duchess of Hamilton (background) and was the turbine chosen to survive the 1971 cull, when the once extensive steamer fleet was reduced to two. Car ferries and smaller motor vessels were now the essence of the CSP fleet and the paddle steamer Waverley was next to go - after the 1973 season. The Queen, the pride of the fleet, hung on.
